The ACL, or anterior cruciate ligament is one of the primary ligaments connected to the knee joint. It's also one of the most frequently injured ligaments. Many people choose ACL surgery to help them recover from this type of injury. Athletes looking to return to an intense level of activity sometimes turn to ACL surgery to get them back on track faster. Other candidates for ACL surgery include people subject to repeated occurrences of instability due to a deficiency in the anterior cruciate ligament. Also people who aren't interested in more conservative types of therapy are good candidates for ACL. Whether or not ACL surgery is the right choice depends on the needs of the patient and the opinion of their surgeon. There are different types of ACL surgery. The typical ACL surgery involves grafting with a patellar tendon, hamstring tendon or using a donor tissue graft. The patellar tendon surgery is generally considered the most secure type of graft while the uses of donor tissue grafts is considered the least painful post surgery. |
